015.13 The Town of Balfron stands on a gentle declivity Sloping gradually to the EndricK. It was founded in 1789 by Robert Dunmore Esqr. of Ballindalloch. It is neatly built, occupies a beautiful Situation, and always has a clean interesting appearance.It is the chief Seat of trade in the West of StirlingShire. Most of its inhabitants are Shopkeepers, handloom-weavers, cotton-Spinners, and handicraftmen. The Town has a Branch office of the British Linen Co's [Company's] Bank. It has also a public Library, two schools, Free and U. P. [United Presbyterian] Churches and three Public Houses. In the vicinity are the Ballindalloch Cotton Mills. There are two Fairs held here during the year, the first for cattle in the month of May, the second a Feeing Fair for Servants in the Month of August. It contains about 1450 Inhabitants.
