032.07 A large building situated on the north side of Bardowie Loch on what was at one time an Island, the entrance to it being by a drawbridge, the western portion is a modern building, it is not known at what time the eastern part was originally built, but it was rebuilt about 300 years ago, it is in a good state of preservation and is partly occupied.
"Craigmaddie Castle which had been the residence of the Galbraiths & Hamiltons was abandoned in 1551 by the proprietor, who rebuilt the old Fort of Bardowie for his residence." (Mr. Galloways account of the Lands of Bankeir & Ballendrocht)
