005.16; 006.13; 009.04; 010.01 Instead of the old Racecourse, which to the general dissatisfaction of the people, was about five miles distant from Kelso; James the late Duke of Roxburgh for the [convenience] of the inhabitants granted the present. ground a large waste called Berry Moss, scarcely a mile from the town and in every respect preferable to the former. It is an almost perfect level and has a circumference of [--] miles. The first races on this course took place in the year 1822. They are usually held in the month of October, and have of late been attended more numerousy, and afforded such excellent sport, that they rank among the best in Scotland.
