009.03 This hill rises as abruptly from the North as it descends towards the South, and extends in an oblong and regular from through several fields from N E [North East] to S W. [South West] The higher part of the hill is covered with a circular plantation, where it is supposed, in former times the Gallows were erected and Criminals executed, from which the name is evidently derived. It remains a question of interest whether this place of judgement had any relation with the town of Kelso, or the now extinct Barony of Brox in which it was situated.
