Galashiels parish cosists of two ancient & suppressed parishes of Bowside & Lindean, the former in Selkirkshire and the latter in Roxburghshire - these two parishes were for a long time perfectly distinct - "Bowside". or the Selkirkshire part. is what is termed the parish of Galashiels proper, in which is Situated the town of Galashiels - Lindean, or the Roxburghshire part. is what forms the present subject, and goes under the denomination of "Part of Galashiels" or as the arrangement of the name on the Survey Plans goes Galashiels (Part of) - It is bounded on the N.W [North West] by the River Tweed. which Separates it from the parish proper - on the west by Selkirk Parish. in Selkirkshire, & a portion

The popular and the really remotest source of the Tweed is a paltry fountain called Tweed's Well, a little above the Farmhouse of Tweedshaws, & at the foot of a hill named Tweed's Cross, on the S. [South] Western boundary of the parish of Tweedsmuir, Peeblesshire_
