041 This chapel was built about the 12 Century, and named after St. Duthach or as it is now written St. Duthus, a very pious man a native of Tain, who, tradition says, was Chief Confessor of Ireland and Albin, and died in Armagh in the year 1065. Two centuries later his remains were translated to this Chapel, which had been built over the spot, where he first saw the light. In or about 1427, Mowat the laird of Freswick was defeated in a hostile encounter by Thomas McNeil of Creich. Mowat and his companions fled for refuge into St Duthus Chapel, where McNeil slew the fugitives and set fire to the Chapel. Nothing [continued on page 22]
