090 | This is a Small country Village on the east Shore of the Moray Firth Consisting of one Street the houses are mostly one Storey high partly Slated and partly thatched, it Contains one Church two Schools three Public Houses and a few small grocers Shops there is a good Corn Mill at the east end of Bridge Street worKed by Water power it contains no Public building, is lighted by the Burgh of Fortrose with Paraffine Oil in the winter Season RosemarKie was anciently a separate royal burgh having been erected into such by Alexander II but it was united with Chanonry (the ancient name of Fortrose) by a charter granted by James II in 1444 for all political purposes under the common name of Fortrose. The old name of Rosemarkie is still however used to distinguish it from Chanonry now generally termed Fortrose |
