In reply to the above I beg
to state that Resolis is made up
of the two Old Parishes of Kirkmichael
and Cullicudden, the ruins of the two Churches
being still visible & the Church yards attached
the only ones in use - During the incumbency
of the Rev [Reverend] Mr McPhail 1748-74 the present
Parish Church was built in the Centre of
the United Parish & on a farm then
called Resolis - from its exposure to the
sea. Hence the name Resolis
now universally used except in ecclesi-
astical documents.
The Session Records do not extend
further back than 1821 & there the
name Resolis (always so spelled) is the
