parties was given way and flying, a tenant and his son
who were ploughing on that field, had taken off the Yokes

routed troops, and with them recommenced the action
and carried the day. It would the battle was bloody, and desper-
rately fought, from the vast number of cairns of stones that are
still to be seen there, covering the dead. These, the people still hold
so sacred, that though a great deal of the adjoining moor is
now cultivated, not one of these cairns has been ever touched.

Mr Greig Schoolmaster.

On maKing enquiries
with respect to the changing
of the Ph [Parish] name to Knockbain
it took place in 1756 when
the Parishes of Kilmuir Wester &
Suddie were united. The church
was built on a peice of ground
named Knockbain and So the
Ph [Parish] name became changed. I
have made many enquiries and
from the information gained I
believe the Proper name of the
Ph [Parish] is Kilmuir Wester and
Suddie, locally termed
Knockbain as an easier name
to term it by, in Correspondence
or Conversation.
