It was situated on the side of the County Road between Tain & Bonar 1/4 mile E. [East] of Easter Fearn.

OS1/28/10/13 TUMULUS (Site of) [Ardvanie] Tumulus Rev [Reverend] Mr Joass 027 During the formation of the Railway near Ardvanie the line passed through a group of tumuli one of these tumuli apparently the same size as the others was in the line of works & had to be cleared away it was found to be surrounded by a narrow ditch 3 ft deep filled in with black earth, In this ditch were found the fragments of an Urn, In the centre of the tumulus lay a Cist 4 feet long 3 feet broad and 15 inches deep, It contained black mould & sand with bits of burnt bone at the bottom, also the point of a Bronze blade and a bead of blue glass bearing three volutes inwrought in yellow enamel, These are now in the Antiquities Museum in Edinburgh, Such beads are Known as Clachan - Nathaireach by the Highlanders and are used as charms for the care of sick cattle. ONE CONTAINED AN URN; A SECOND GRAVEL AND SAND, BURNT BONES, HUMAN TEETH & PART OF A BRONZE PIN: A THIRD AN URN AND A CUP [Torran Dubh] Three Stone Cists found here A.D 1866. Edderton. 028 In Feby [February] 1866. W. S. Duff Esqr. Edderton Ho [House] discovered an urn in a small cist on the southward slope of a Knoll named Torran dubh on south side of public road about 5th Milestone from Tain. 12 feet north on the top of the Torran dubh another Cist was found 3 feet under the surface and covered with two large sandstone slabs one over the other. The Cist was 4 ft 6 inches long, 33 in. wide at one end and 18 in. at the other and 12 Inches? deep. It was filled with gravel and sand in which were found bits of burnt bone, human teeth and part of a bronze pin. 12 ft west from this in a small cist near the surface another urn was found ornamented on lip and shoulder with chevron pattern. This urn is now at Balnagowan. A sandstone slab 2 in. thick and 1 ft. square lay near. on one side of it a cup had been picked out 1/2 in. deep and 1 1/2 in. diameter Description by Revd. One had been previously opened; A second contained fragments of an Urn, & Burnt Bones; A third Flint Arrowheads, Charcoal & Blackened Grain; A fourth Burnt Bones, Human Teeth, Thumb Flint or Scraper, & Blackened Grain; A fifth Fine Sand Burnt Bones, & Charcoal; And a Sixth an Urn & a Human Skeleton Revd. [Reverend] J. M. Joass, Golspie. Mr. McKenzie, Craigrow. Mr W. Alexander, Edderton 028 About a quarter of a mile South East of the Manse there was a tumulus about 24 feet in diameter and 5 feet high. It had been often ploughed over. When explored it was found to contain 6 Cists, varying in length from 3 feet to 18 inches. One of these had been previously opened. of the rest one contained burnt bones and pieces of an urn. Another an entire urn with chevron and straight lined pattern alternately, from top to bottom, also the skeleton of an aged person of small stature with broad flattish scull. In another were found a rude flint Arrowhead, some charcoal and blackened grain. The next gave burnt bones and human teeth a thumb flint or scraper and blackened grain. The last was filled with fine sand and contained small fragments of burnt bone & charcoal.
