List of names as written Various modes of spelling Authorities for spelling Situation Description remarks
SCULPTURED STONE [Clachule Inn] Sculptured Stone (at Clachuile Inn) 087 In the eastern end, of the Inn, is a large boulder stone, having a round hole in the centre, capable of containing an English quart. there are several others of a similar kind in the neighbourhood, but no account can be obtained locally of their use, but as a similar stone exists in the centre of the remains of a Druidical circle at Contin, it has probably been used either in the rites of the Druids, or as a baptismal stone immediately after the introduction of Christianity into the island, it being well known that for sometime subsequent to that era, the natives were in the habit of worshipping at the old sacred places or stone circles.
