087 This name is applied to two houses situated on the south bank of the River Conon, east and adjacent to Clachuile Inn, they are both occupied by poor people, are one storey thatched & in middling repair, the property of K.W. S MacKenzie of Brahan Castle by Dingwall.
CHALYBEATE WELL (Covered at High Water) Well 087 About 1/2 half mile west from Auchtabannock and in the River C. [Conon] near the south bank is a small well which is always covered by the River unless in dry weather when the River Conon becomes low. It is strongly impregnated with sulphur. The water is as clear as any other spring but smells like the scourings of as foul gun. It is of the (same) kind with the much frequented spring of Strathpeffer. Vide Statis. acts.
