052 This name is applied to two ancient cairns about 190 yards apart, situated on the farm of Knockled at Boath. The westmost cairn has been partially removed for building purposes, the other one however is almost entire.

052 and about 10 years ago a Stone Cist containing human bones was found in one of the Cairns; it is, consequently, supposed that a battle was fought on the moor, these cairns being the burying place of the principal actors who fell therein. The name means "Grey Cairns" from the colour of the Stones. J.C.
