065 A considerable village on the public road between Dingwall and Invergordon 10 miles from the former and three from the latter place. It is divided into two parts by the River Alness and is thus partly in the parish of Rosskeen and partly in the parish of Alness. That portion in RossKeen parish consists of the principal Street and two paralell lanes on the North, which are again connected by two narrow lanes running north and south, and contains an Hotel an Inn, the Post Office, the market Stance, the Railway Station, and a Congregational school belonging to the Free Church. It is supplied with water conveyed in pipes from springs north of the village. This portion is the property of Alexander Matheson Esq. of Ardross. The part west of Alness Bridge consists of part of the principal Street only, and contains two Inns. Water is obtained from the river or from wells. Property of Stewart D. Munro Esqr.
