053 The ruins of this building are situated fully half a mile west of Newmore, are surrounded by an Orchard which has been allowed to fall into decay, and consist of a small square apartment with an arched roof of stone. What its height may have been Cannot be Known, and judging from appearances it cannot have been of great extent. No information can be got about it except that it was built in 1625 by a feudal chief of tyrannical disposition whose name tradition has handed down as Black Munro of Newmore. A stone bearing the date of erection was removed from the ruin and is now built into the stone wall on the west side of the gate at the entrance to the present Newmore. It is not mentioned in the New Statistical Account. Property of Mrs Inglis.
