It is about 60 yards long, by about 12 wide; and sufficiently high for a large boat to ride through at high water. In sailing past it, at the distance of 3 or 4 miles, it appears like a star, as light can be seen through it.

It is rather high, and has a rocky inaccessible cliff. At its eastern end, is a large, low water rock, which is disjoined at any tide.

Its shore is rough, uneven and rocky, and is commanded by a steep rocky inaccessible cliff. Its summit is covered with excellent rocky heathy pasture.

It is the highest point on any of the Shant Islands. Signifies Yellow Summit.

A large, high, inaccessible, rocky cliff, which is about 300 feet in height; lying in a northerly direction along the east shore of Garbh Eilean. It is the resort of sea-fowl and eagles, which build their nests in it. Signifies Large Rocky Cliff.

OS1/27/134/8 GÀRBH EILEAN Gàrbh Eilean Gàrbh Eilean Gàrbh Eilean John Morrison John McKay Allan Ross 049 [Situation] In the centre of the plan, 3/4 of a mile West of Eilean Mhuire and north of Eilean an Tighe. The largest of the Shant Isles, which is about 1 mile in length, by about 3/4 of a mile in breadth. It is nearly surrounded by a steep rocky cliff, which, on the north side is inaccessible. At high water, a landing can be effected on any part of it. It is connected with Eilean an Tighe, by a small, low, narrow, shingly beach. Its beach is small, with the exception of a portion on the north-east side. It is the resort, of a great number of sea-fowl, Eagles, puffins, cormorants, ravens, carrion crows, with other smaller birds, all of which breed in the cliffs Continued on next page - [9]

It is the most conspicuous of the group west of Eilean Garbh.

A group of high and low water rocKs, lying in a direction east and west. They extend for upwards of a mile. The tide flows exceedingly strong around them. A landing can be easily effected on any of them, at low water. Great numbers of sea-fowl breed in the cliffs in the summer season. The tops of a few of them, are covered with rough pasture.
