It was built and endowed by the present proprietor of the Lewis, for the purpose of having the English language taught. Attached to the school-house, and under the same roof, is the teacher's house:- he receives a yearly salary of 25£. No fees are exacted, unless the parents of the children are both able and willing to pay. Attached to it is a portion of good arable land, which is enclosed by a stone wall. |
