003 | [Situation] On the northern side of this plan, and the most northern point of Lewis. It bears N. [North] by E. [East] of Stornoway about 22 miles, and about 17 miles N. [North] by W. [West] of Chumpan Head. The north end, and most prominent headland of the Lewis. It is very much indented by Small coves and fissures and has a Steep rugged coastline, which is in many parts perpendicular, and against which the Sea beats with great force. It affords but one Safe landing place, or port, on the East Coast, and but one (an indifferent one) on the west coast; whilst the northern Coast is almost always too rough to land on. |
