003 | [Situation] At the northern end of the Butt of Lewis, 70 chs. [chains] N. [North] by W. [West] of Eoropaidh Village. A Small cove on the coast, at the Butt of Lewis, the banks of which are steep, rocky, and precipitous. Formerly there was a cave in it, which was the favourite resort of Smugglers, and which is said to have been their last stronghold in the Lewis. The cliff and earthy bank which overhung it, have fallen in and completely closed it up. |
