001.11 | About 1¼ mile north east from the Village of Innerkip the road to Greenock passes through the ruins of the building. A portion of the walls is still Standing on each side of the road. "At Christwell there stood a Chapel which was founded in the reign of Robert III and was endowed with lands in this Parish. [Fullertons Gazetteer] Mr Crawford told me that Christwell was the original name of this place and that about 60 years ago the road was made through the old building, but how long it had been in ruins previously to that time he could not say. |
