001.08 "The old Castle of Gourock or Finnart [Stewart] the manorial residence of the ancient [and] superior stood at the distance of about ½ a mile South East from the Village, no part of its ruins however now remain, it was taken down and entirely removed about 1747 when the present house of Gourock was built. A handsome Bridge across a small rivulet has been recently erected almost at the spot where the old Castle [stood]"

Major Darroch told me that a few stones which are seen near the edge of the Burn are part of the original foundation.
