[Description of Eaglesham Parish continued]

...East Kilbride in Lanarkshire. The White Cart Water rising in the moors of Eaglesham and East Kilbride divides Renfrewshire from Lanarkshire as far as Cathcart. The upland part of the Parish consists of 3 grazing farms averaging 700 to 800 acres, the moors are celebrated for their game. The lowland farms 54 in number are very productive, they average 120 acres. The parish is about 7 miles long from North to South and about 6 broad. It contains 15736:72 acres and its population in 1851 was 2524 of which 2200 about will reside in the village. The village was built in 1769 by Alexander 10th Earl of Eglington after designs by himself. It consists of two principal streets nearly parallel to one another, & contains 122 houses.
