013.06 This parish derives its name from the British Caeth-cart, which signifies the strait, or confined part of the Cart.
The parish is bounded on the north by the parish of Govan, on the N. [North] and E. [East] by Rutherglen, on the E. [East] and South by Carmunnock, on the south east by East Kilbride, on the south by Mearns, and on the west by Eastwood.
It is partly in the counties of Renfrew and Lanark, the larger portion in the former county.
Its extreme length, from N. [North] to S. [South], is about 3 miles, extreme breadth from E. [East] to W. [West], about 2 __
The antiquities of the parish are interesting. In this parish was fought the memorable battle of Langside. The last fought by Queen Mary __
There is a detached portion of this parish in on the N. [North] W. [West] side of East Kilbride, bounded on the N. [North] by Mearns, on the N. [North] E, E. [East] and S.[South] E. [East] by E. [East] Kilbride, and on the south & W. [West] by Eaglesham.
