Plan of Parliamentary Burgh Mr William Brand Mr Gilmour |
012.03 | On the Summit of Byres Hill there is Still pretty Visible the trace of a Ditch Supposed to have been an Encampment, but whether of Roman or local origin Cannot now be Ascertained. Mr Semple Writer, Mr Gilmour Factor, Mr William Robertson residing in Oldhall are of opinion from traditionary Accounts that a Camp was on the hill which is the popular opinion of the better informed inhabitants of the neighborhood. The traces of this circular or line would conceive a British Camp are still just visible. |
