the best on the Forth. It is under excellent management. The Ferry is three quarters of a mile at high water, and only one quarter when the tide is out. Two Steamboats are attached to the ferry, which pass in about five minutes at all times of the Tide and in all states of the weather. The piers of the ferry were built in 1826 & 1827 by Lord Keith's Trustees, at the cost of 6468£ 5s. 9d. Trade and Commerce are decidedly on the decline in this parish. The extensive distilleries, collieries, and salt works which fomerly employed many workmen, are totally extinct. The shipping interest is also on the decline. The shipowners buy or build vessels of large tonnage elsewhere and these are seldom seen at this port, being chiefly employed in the East and West India trade, - the Brazils, Mediterranean, and New South Wales.
There are three places of worship in the parish, two connected with the Church of Scotland, and one belonging to the United Associate Synod. Lady Keith is the patronness of the parish. The present parish church is an elegant and substantial building, erected in 1833, at the cost of 3400£. The Stipend enjoyed by the parish minister is about 259£. The extent of the glebe is about 13 acres, and its annual value about 40£. The present manse was built in 1823. It is situated West of the town of Kincardine, and is a comfortable and commodious dwelling.
There is a parish school with a dwelling house and garden. The school is taught by a master, aided by an assistant, and is attended by 180 scholars. The salary is the maximum. There are three other schools in the town and parish, one of which is aided by the Government.

The parish contains 4176 Statute acres by computation from the Ordnance plans. There are no detached portions of this parish, nor are there any detached portions of any other parish locally situated within it.
