The parish of Trinity Gask is in the Presbytery of Auchterarder, and Synod of Perth and Stirling. Patron the Earl of Kinnoul.
The present parish comprehends the ancient parishes of Kinkell and Wester Gask, one of which had a second place of worship at a locality still called Chapelhill; and the union of the three churches into one parish is said to have given rise to the name Trinity Gask.
The parish contains about 5784 Statute acres and is bounded on the south by Blackford and Auchterarder parishes; on the east, by the parishes of Dunning, Auchterarder detached No.1, Dunning detached, and Findo Gask; on the north by Madderty parish; and on the west, by the parishes of Monzie detached No.1 and Muthill.
The soil of this parish is very various; but on about three fourths of the parochial area, is beatufully cultivated and enclosed, and over the remaining fourth promises soon to own the dominion of the plough. The district is richly planted and has clothing of trees athwart an aggregate area of about 1,000 acres.
There are no detached portions of this parish nor are there any detached portions of another parish situated within it. |

Chapelhill) The plan Suto bears the name of Chapelhill but it was turned over some time ago, and no
trace of it is now to be found."
Site of TUMULUS 108/5
Extract from Stat [Statistical] Account, "about 6 years ago, a tumulus, about 3 feet by 2 consisting of 4 large
Stomes, and covered with a fifth, was discovered upon the property of Lord Kinnoull, containing
a considerable quantity of decayed human bones, It was supposed to be a relic of the Romans
but there was nothing from which this could be positively determined, The remains of the skull
lying at the Eastern end would indicate an origin prior to the introduction of Christianity, Around
this sarcophagus and mingled with the stones of the Cairn which covered it, were ashes and burnt
bones, as if animals or captives had been sacrificed on the Tomb of the Chief." |

TRINTY WELL
Extract from Stat. [Statistical] Account, The only remarkable Spring is Trinity
Well a little South of the Manse of great renown in Popish days
for the performing of remarkable cures.
BORE STONE
Extract from Stat [Statistical] Account. There is also a peculiar looking Stone
standing on the high ground about a mile to the north west
of Gasconhall called the Borestone, It has borne an inscription,
but age has so completely obliterated the characters, that it
is impossible to decypher a single word, The figure of
animals among which the boar and the Stag predominate
may still be traced. Some maintain that it was a trysting
place for the hunting of the wild boar, others that it was an
instrument of punishment with which idea to stone corresponds,
It is about 5 feet high with two holes at the top through which
the arms of the delinquent might be thrust and be kept
there ia a sort of pillory. |

The ruins of this old pile are situated in the east-end of the parish; and on the north bank of the River Earn. The settled tradition in the neighbourhood is, that, it was here where Sir William Wallace encountred the ghost of Fandon. The writer of the New Statistical Account of the Parish does not seem to place much confidence in this because "its appearance would not justify any such remote origin." What is here referred to, is supposed to be only a wing of the building, which is about 50ft. high, composed of unknown stone. Hence, one is led to believe that, it is of remote origin. The same writer goes on to say that, "The real Gascon Hall is said to have stood about a mile & a half east from this, amongst the present woods of Gask." Here again this statement is not in accordance with the fact of Sir William Wallace's immediately swimming the River Earn, after encountering the said ghost. |
