052 A basalt rock on each side of the River Ericht that on the west side is almost taken away, but that on the east is yet very prominent. "On both sides of the Ericht and about ½ Mile to the northward of the town, there is a fine dike of columnar basalt in horizontal layers, so very regular as to resemble in some degree a work of art, and to obtain for the locality the popular name of the Deil's Briggs."
