123 This name is applied to a strong spring of pure water on the public foot road, between "Callander" and "Aberfoil," "About the time of the Battle of Pinkie a scuffle took place between the Appin Stewarts and the Grahams of Monteith. The scuffle was close to Tobernareal the Clare Fontane of the district being a remarkable spring of water on the top of the ridge as the traveller goes from Menteith to Strathgartney and comes in sight of Ben Ledi and Loch Venacher. The Earl of Menteith fell by the arm of Inverheil, (Donald nan Ord), or Donald of the hammers" New Statistical Account.

123 A well known name applied to a large hill near foot of "Loch Venacher". A long precipice runs along the north side extending from "Lochan Balloch" to about ¼ of a mile east of "Pot of Glenny", and a Smaller one on the south, forming a narrow ridge of considerable length.
