The parish of Muthill lies a little to the south of the centre of the southern half of Perthshire; it is bounded on the south by the parishes of Dunblaneand Ardoch; on the east, by Blackford, Trinity Gask, and a detached part of Monzie; on the north, by Crieff, and Monzievaird and Strowan parishes; And on the West by the Parish of Comrie and two detached portions Nos. 3 & 4 of Monzievaird and Strowan Ph. [Parish] Along the sides of the Earn and the Allan, the haughs are for the most part a light loam, on beds of sand and gravel, which, with an admixture of lime and marl, produce very luxuriant crops. Almost to the hill top, from the banks of the rivers, the ground is found to be made productive by cleaning, by draining, and by manuring;and so every year, wee see a little field made out, farther up the hill. The low grounds especially are very productive when limed, and drained, and manured.
The parish contains 22095 acres - Statute Acres by admeasurement from the plans, There are no detached portions of this parish nor are there any detached portions of any other parish situated within it.
