Mr. Thomas Cameron Mr. John Bullion Mr. William Menzies Valuation Roll 1857-8 |
062 | The old Castle of Murthly consists of the Keep surrounded by a number of other buildings of a more modern date, it is uncertain at what time the first part of this building was erected, but it bears the appearance of great age. "A splendid structure in the Elizabethan style of architecture, still unfinished. Close to it is the Old Castle, bearing the marks of great antiquity. It is splendidly fitted up, and adorned by many paintings and works of art of the first masters, and forms the chief seat of the Murthly Family. The Keep is the oldest part of the building, but the record of its erection has been lost." Dunkeld, its Straths & Glens |
