In 1172 a family assuming the house of Kinnaird acquired proparprite of this Castle & adjacent Lands from the Crown., and this family continued in succession to the properties thereof for fully 400 years This is borne out by old Charter. Shortly after the commencement of the 17th Century, " The Castle & Lands of Kinnaird" were purchased by Sir John Livingstone, one of the Gentlemen of the Bed Chambers to James 1 of England,& 6yth of Scotland
