A large stone about 8 feet in height Situated on an eminence N.W. [North West] of Hilton house. Mr. Thomson of Kirkton of Mailer informed me that there is nothing traditionary about this stone only that it is called the "Standing Stone." It is the opinion of all the intelligent who has seen this stone that it is a memorial of some extent of a period long past It is one of those stones called Cal Stones in other localities.
