125 | This is a large and remarkable stone situated in the middle of a field immediately in front of the farm-steading of Whitestone. Popular tradition has ascribed its erection to Wallace, in commemoration of a victorious encounter with the English Army on the slopes of the Ochills. This however, is merely a tradition and there is no doubt whatever that this stone is Druidical both from its position and appearance. Several eminent antiquarians are disposed to consider it as such. |
