OS1/25/10/1 BLACKFORD Blackford Blackford Blackford Blackford Blackford Blackford Blackford Revd [Reverend] John Clark Sheriffs List of Parishes Old Statistical Account New Statistical Account Fullarton's Gazetteer Oliver and Boyd's Almanac Johnston's County Map 108 The parish of Blackford is in the Presbytery of Auchterarder, and Synod of Perth and Stirling. It is bounded on the north and north east by the parish of Trinity Gask; on the east by Auchterarder; on the South and Southeast by Glendevon; on the South by Tillicoultry, and Alva; The latter being a detached part of the County of Stirling; And on the west by Dunblane, Ardoch and Muthill parishes. A ridge of the Ochils occupies the southern part, which, towards the River Devon, is steep and craggy; but on the north it descends gently to the flat part of the parish which is watered by the Allan. The soil is thin with a gravelly bottom. A great part is marshy; and a moor of considerable extent, now under plantation, occupies the northern part of the district. The vicinity of the Ochils renders the climate moist and unfavourable to vegetation. The parish contains about 21491 Statute Acres. There are no detached parts of this parish; and there are no detached parts of any other parish situated within it.
