074 | A ferry across the River Tay, for the conveyance of passengers and horses, it is attached to the farm of Burnmouth, and is the property of His Grace the Duke of Athole. "It is told of his Lordship that he superintended the transporting of the first millstones across the Tay, at the Norlane boat, the only ferry on the river in the parish." New Statistical Acct [Account] This ferry was originally known by the name of the Norlane boat, it has, however, been known by various names, having been generally called after the person acting as ferryman, but since it has become attached to the Burnmouth farm, it has been called the Burnmouth Ferry. |
