The parish of Auchterarder is in the Presbytery of Auchterarder, Synod of Perth and Stirling. Patron the Earl of Kinnoul. The parish is bounded on the east by Dunning parish; on the South by Glendevon parish; on the West by the Blackford Parish; And on the north by Trinity Gask parish. The parish contains about 11227 Statute Acres which includes a Detached portion containing 12½ acres, which is bounded on the east, and west, by Dunning parish; on the north by Findo Gask parish; and on the south by Trinity Gask parish. There are no detached portions of another parish situated within the parish of Auchterarder. The name of the parish is derived from the principal town in it, dignifying the summit of the rising ground which describes exactly its situation on the ridge of an eminence in the middle of Strathearn, commanding on the north and east, an extensive prospect of the adjacent country. The greater part of the parish is a flat and level country, lying on the south of the River Earn; it also includes some part of the Ochil Hill, particularly Craig Rossie. These hills are clothed to their summit with grass, and afford good sheep pasture. Almost the whole of the lower part of the parish is arable, and the northern declivity of the hills is arable a considerable way upwards. |

The new Statistical Account is wrong in giving St. Mungo as the dedicatory name of this church. Mr. Reid, Solicitor, Auchterarder, has a
Charter in which the church at Auchterarder is mentioned as being dedicated to St. Mackessog and the one at Aberuthven to St. Kattan.
The present parish church is in the town of Auchterarder |

Upon the Summit of Ben Efrey are situated the remains of a Camp the origin of which is doubtful to many, but when its position is considered, as well as its forming one of the chain extending from Caerpon to the Wall, its erection may be attributed to Agricola. This camp has had a triple rampart of Stone, and earth on the South Side which is the weakest. |

This is the remains of a Roman or Pictish camp, situated on the summit of Ogle Hill. The most part of this camp is entirely defaced. The south-eastern part of it is the most complete - one part of the embankments -- about five feet in height. It appears to have been of a form approximate to the oval. Mr. Halden is of opinion that this is a Pictish camp. The remainder of the authorities agree in calling it a Roman camp. |
