117 | A large piece of low level ground used as a curling pond on which the Caledonian Curling matches are played. It has a high embankment on the south and extending a short distance on the east and west sides, terminating where the ground becomes high. It is supplied with water by a small stream which flows through it from the north and out at a sluice, which regulates the required depth of water. Form the 1st March till the 1st November it is dry, and affords summer pasturage for cattle, During winter it is kept covered with water to the depth of between three and four feet. |
