QUERNS FOUND HERE [nr. Barry Hill] Querns or Handmills found here Mr. Lammond Bruceton 053 A Small hillock apparently artificial as the distinct traces of a ditch round it is still visible. Its surface is covered with R.P. [Rough Pasture] and whins. Mr. Fleming the tenant when digging for stones some few years ago found some hand mills or querns, Some of which are still in his possession. No other information can be gleaned concerning this knoll in the neighbourhood.

I can obtain no information respecting
this object, but it is clearly artificial
and a work of defence. In trenching
up the small Fort below Barry Hill a
short distance to the westward, several querns
or hand mills were found, and as the
same utensils have been also found within
this enclosure it is probable that it was in
