[continued from page 1] "Vizt: Ben Venue and Ben Chochan. Both of these mountains command extensive views to the North, West and East. The celebrated Scenery of the Trosachs lies immediately beneath them; and from their summits can be distinctly traced "the windings of the Chase" so beautifully described by the late Sir W. Scott in his Lady of the Lake. The valleys in the vicinity of these mountains are of small extent. There are 5 lakes in the parish of considerable extent Loch Katrine, Loch Chon, Loch Achray, & Loch Drunkie. The River Forth has its rise at the western extremity of this parish at a place called Sgiath an Iubhair." New Stat. [Statistical] Account. The only antiquities in the parish are the ruins of a Castle on an Island in Loch Chon (6 in [inch] plan 122) and a Circle of Stones termed a "Clachan" (on plan 130.1) There is a Small Village in the Ph. [Parish] (plan 130.1) at which there is an Inn, Post Office &c. |
