This Name is given to a portion of the Drove Road opposite to the Lead Mine - And seems to have derived its Name from water rushing down amongst stones into Taniel Burn - during and after heavy rains.

018 [Situation] About ¾ of A Mile N.E [North East] of The Lead Mine
A heathy Knowe on the farm of Traquair Knowe to the North of the Drove Road - on which is a Trigonometrical Station. It is thought that in Ancient times Soldiers were either practised in the Art of War - or, that a battle or Skirmish took place on or Near this place - in either of which Supposition, it is Supposed that the piper or pipers were Stationed on this Knowe. On all other particulars, tradition is Silent.
