013 | [Situation] About 25 Chains W [West] by [North] of the Church A ruin at the West end of the Old Town, having only the Tower which stands at its Western end & a portion of the Northern Sidewall Standing. It was erected as a place of Worship, in the 12th Century was consecretated by Bishop Joceline Archbishop of Glasgow in 1195 and was dedicated to St Andrew. It is said to have been richly endowed, as it had a Provost, ten altars, and ten choristers and remained the Parish Church of Peebles until the reformation. It is Supposed not to have been destroyed at that time, as there is a tradition still existing which says that Cromwells dragoons when engaged in besieging Neidpath Castle, stabled their horses in St Andrew's Church. It is surrounded by a large graveyard, enclosed by a substantially built wall. Nothing now remains to point out this.
