three other fortified entrenchments, of smaller dimensions are visible upon Houndhill, Woodhouse and Rigg Knoll of Hall Manor, along with these there still remain the ruins of Several Fortified houses or Tower of Defence, often used as Beacon Towers during the border Wars, a remarkable road called the "Theif's Road" passes thro' [through] this Parish, many antiquities has been brought to light during the present Century "The Standingstones, Fount Stone, Giants Grave, Macduff's Castle" It is difficult to asertain the date of the erection of the Parish Church, however it bears the trace of being very Ancient. Earl Wemyss of Gosford Castle Haddingtonshire is the Patron of the living -
