It was tenanted by David Ritchie - the original of Sir Walter Scott's "Black Dwarf" And Said to have been originally erected by him, The Cottage walls were only 4 feet in height - but the house has underwent considerable repairs - Since the period of the dwarf's tenancy, the walls having been raised to the height of an ordinary dwelling - and the roof slated, There has Also been a new dwelling, erected for farm Servants at the South end of it And attached is - A Small garden, the walls of which were also built by Ritchie |

of Scott's 'Black Dwarf" lived in the Parish
of Manor, at the distance of About four
miles from Peebles. He was born of poor
parents in the parish of Stobo about the year 1740
