Mr J. Miller Shepherd Farneyhaugh Mr Brown Farmer Nth [North] Slipperfield Mr Plenderleith Farnyhaugh |
004 | [Situation] On the S E Side of North Muir. This is a Cairn similar to the Upper one only it's dimmensions are a little Smaller. Nothing has been found in this Cairn, but it is probable that when fully opened Urns or other Remains will be discovered. Numerous Cartloads of stones have been taken from these heaps to build places to and out of the Upper Cairn An entire Sheepfold has been erected. There cannot be a doubt that these are Sepulchral Cairns; from their Size and appearance they have stood here for ages. They are called "Upper" and "Nether" Cairns respectively from their position to the farm-house of Fairnyhaugh. |
