004 | [Situation] In the S [South] Western portion of Linton Ph [Parish] and on the east side of North Muir A Pile of loose stones about twenty feet high and about sixty feet in circumference at the base. This is Evidently a Sepulchural cairn, erected to mark the burial place of some distinguished warrior who fell in battle here. No account, written or tradition exists to throw any light upon the origin of this Cairn, but the general opinion in the locality (which is shared by antiquaries who have examined the Pile) favours the above supposition. It has not been opened, but other Cairns which stood in the neighbourhood were found to contain funeral urns and one of them a small sword or dagger, flint headed arrows have also been found in the vicinity of these cairns. From the appearance of the ground it is probable that an Engagement took place here at some remote period, as the surface presents numerous little mounds formed of stones covered with earth which were probably [????] such is the general belief in the neighbourhood.
