008 | [Situation] About 11 chains S.E [South East] from Castlecraig This is the Remains of the Old Parish Church of Kirkurd. The only part remaining is a Vaulted Aisle Covered with Ivy the walls of the Church have nearly all disappeared: having been removed in laying out the pleasure grounds which surrounds the Remains. The Remains of the Graveyard are Indicated by Several Tombs which are still preserved, by the original Extent of the Enclosure cannot be traced The Church is supposed to have been Erected about the Ninth Century, but whether dedicated to any Saint is not Known. The Parish Records go no further back than 1705, and the minister has only been here a few years: Mr Palmer, whom I consulted, is Session Clerk. There is nothing Known of its Ancient History but what is recorded in the several published accounts |
