This is the Remains of what appears to have been an ancient Hill Fort. It is in a Very bad state of preservation; Is of a Circular Shape; and appears to have been defended by three Concentric ditches. There is no Tradition as to the people by whom it was Constructed, but is supposed to have been about the time of the Border Warfare |

A large, and nearly Circular encampment on the farm of Mitchelhill, at the Eastern extremity of the White Hill It was surrounded by two. ditches (Most of which remain to be seen,) together with an inner wall seemingly composed of loose stones, The stones of the wall were taken away for the purpose of building dikes
This place (together with others of a similar nature in this neighbourhood is supposed to have been places of defence, used by the inhabitants in the time of the Border warfare, where they could with safety, defend themselves and property, from the attacks of the Border Marauders and Moss Troopers |

[Situation] About 15 Chains S.W. [South West] of Mitchelhill
A ruin, a short distance S W [South West] of Mitchelhill farm-house, It stands in the centre of a small graveyard and was, about 40 years ago the Parish Church of Kilbucho, prior to that Parish being Ecclesiastically joined to or divided between Broughton and Glenholm, and Culter Parishes The present ruin or church. is said to have been erected in the site of an older Church, which was dedicated to St. Bede or St Bees or Begha. The latter name is thought the most probable as it cannot be known how Bede could be corrupted or changed into Bucho, It is said that some monks belonging to the Order of St. Bees Settled and built a church here in former times but the date of their settlement is not known |

The house is occasionally occupied by the Heirs of the purchaser (the late Mr Richardson) and the Glebe is let by them to Mr Watson of Mitchelhill. |

An excellent Spring well East side of Kilbucho Manse from which flows a plentiful stream of water the well and stream were covered over by the late proprietor, Mr Richardson, b [but] was not in anyways destroyed. the stream is conveyed through a small conduit from the well till it empties itself into the Mitchelhill Burn. There is no tradition at present known about this well, its only supposed to have taken this name on account of its proximity to St Bees Church |

Bedes or Bees well as it is commonly called was an open drawwell built round with stones from which issued a plentiful current. The proprietor of the glebe of Kilbucho has covered it over with flags or flat stones and earth so as to render the spot arable and the water by means of a conduit Spouts in Abundance from the banks into the channel of the burn.
