100 | Applies to what are said to be remains of four ancient burial mounds, three of which are situated in a cluster on the south side of Loch of Stenness about 10 Chains N.N.E. from the farm offices of Redland, & the fourth - the most of which has been removed, a few large stones & some rubbish only now remaining - about 4 Chains south from these, on the property of Mr. Corrigall of Arion, The former three appear to have been excavated, but when this took place, by whom, & what were they were found to contain, cannot be ascertained, What is said to be a stone Cist is situated about the centre of the farthest west of the group & would seem to have been laid open in the process of excavation above referred to, It is about 3 feet square, Its depth is not obtainable as it is filled with earth, The top of it only being visible above the surface, |
