001 This name refers to the spot where the town cross originally stood previous to its removal to its present position sometime in the beginning of the last Century. There is no mark to denote the ancient site, but tradition says that a stone was placed by the people, below the present surface of the street, per that purpose - It is believed to have been placed in the centre of High Street almost exactly opposite the entrance gate of the parish manse.
