To Capt.[Captain] Bolland
Royal Engineers
Inverness
Dear Sir
I did myself the pleasure
of Calling on you at your
Office in Inverness on Friday last
but was informed that you
would be absent during the day
I wished to remonstrate against
the name which I understand
has been given in the Trignonetrical
Survey to the Esse or Fall of the Divie
which I understand has been
designated therein as the "Esse
or Fall of Relugas"
It has no title to this Designation
The right Bank of the Divie |

and the far greater part
of both banks, from its
source belongs to the "Barony
of Tulligens, with the Fortalice
of Dunphail, " and in my
Crown Charter- a Copy of one
of which I enclose - it is called
"The Esse of Carrachans" alike otherwise
"Tomnaclash"- And the Land and
Farm adjoining, ever since
I remember, now nearly 70 years
has been called the "Esseland" -
This Crown grant cannot be lost
and carries with it, as you will
observe "cum Salmonum Piscaria" |

which cannot be interfered
with - and the use made of it
by my neighbour on the left
Bank, at Relugas, was by
permission, granted by me,
to whom that right of Salmon
Fishing from both Banks
alone belongs. As the name
now given to the fall in so
important a public Document
might seem to sanction some
right to it on the part of Relugas
I have thought is necessary
to call your attention to it.
I remain Dear Sir
Yours Faithfully
